Swim your way to a long life

UAC Carnsworth recently celebrated Gwen Waller’s 100th birthday. In the company of family, fellow residents and staff Gwendoline Daisy Waller celebrated her centenary in style.

Gwen Waller turns 100 v2.jpg    Born on the 15th of March 1912 in Gundary, NSW, Gwen spent her childhood in the beautiful seaside town of Narooma on the south coast of NSW, the eldest of six children in her family. Growing up in Narooma, she spent the majority of her childhood swimming in the sea and playing outdoors, Gwen went on swimming well into her 80s.

Gwen moved from Narooma to Parramatta where she wed Neal Caldwell. They had two children, Fred and Dawn. Gwen now has 6 grandchildren and 15 great grand children.

The Carnsworth community reflected upon her dynamic and interesting life during the celebration.

Honouring her middle name, Gwen arrived at her function to the guests who were singing ‘Daisy Daisy’ to the piano. She then sat like a queen underneath the birthday banner. Gwen’s daughter and one of her grand daughters made touching speeches about Gwen.

After singing happy birthday and cutting her cake, the birthday girl recounted her secrets to longevity. The Carnsworth community know her as a warm, fun-loving lady with an infectious sense of fun.

Congratulations and all the best on reaching your century, Gwen!
