Oakleigh Rehabilitation Programs - Program Information
 
 

 Services Offered

 

Physiotherapy

Our qualified physiotherapists offer both individual and group sessions to clients.  We aim to restore function or minimise dysfunction after injury or disease.  The sessions incorporate functional exercise, manual therapy and movement training.

Group sessions also include:

  • Falls and balance groups;
  • Maintenance exercise and balance groups;
  • Pilates;
  • Short term programs with a focus on a specific medical condition may be offered from time to time.

Clients may progress to one of our other programs in order to maximise their abilities.

Physiotherapy sessions are held daily

Cost: $8.00 - $10.00 per session.

Pulmonary Maintenance Group

This group is run by a qualified physiotherapist and is for clients with a Pulmonary condition who have already attended an acute rehabilitation group with education.  This is an exercise based program focusing on Cardiovascular exercises.

Cost: $8.00 per session.

 

Communication Group

Our Chat ‘n Connect Communication Group is jointly run by our social worker and the speech pathologist from the local community health centre.  This group assists clients with a speech and/or communication difficulty to practice and improve their communication skills via group discussions, community access and professional intervention. 

The group meets weekly on a Tuesday from 12.00 noon – 1.00 pm.  Clients require an assessment by the speech pathologist prior to attending.

Cost:  $6.50 per session.

 

Occupational Therapy

Our qualified Occupational Therapist conducts home safety assessments and provides recommendations for home modifications and aids and equipment that will promote better self management and independence at home.

Clients who may have specific goals in their Personal Activities of Daily Living and Leisure that they wish to acheive will be guided with individually developed programs.

Cost:  $10.00 per home visit.

 

Social Work

A qualified Social Worker is available to offer support to individuals and families to address social and emotional wellbeing and adjustment issues, as well as provide information about resources and referrals for further assistance.

Greek Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

This program is held weekly on a Wednesday.   Clients attend for 6 weeks for education and exercise sessions that will promote healthy lifestyles following a cardiac event.  The education sessions are conducted by qualified Greek speaking health professionals and the exercise sessions are delivered by a physiotherapist.

Clients must be of a Greek background and have recently experienced heart surgery, angina or heart attack.  Clients who are at risk of heart disease are also eligible.

This program is a partnership with the Australian Greek Welfare Society.

A doctor’s clearance may be required prior to commencing this program.

 

Preventative Health and Active Living Programs

Strength Training

Our strength training programs are conducted by qualified fitness leaders and exercise physiologists.  We are endorsed by Council on the Ageing (COTA) as one of the Living Longer Living Stronger providers.  Each client is given a program to match their abilities and to improve fitness and strength. 

There are a number of sessions throughout the week.

We also offer a gym transition program a couple of times during the year.  Our fitness leader will assist eligible clients with the transition into the gym environment over an eight week period.

Cost:  $5.00 per session.

 

Warm Water Exercises

Our qualified fitness leaders conduct this session at the Monash Aquatic Centre.  The exercises are designed to either use the water’s resistance to strengthen muscles or the water’s buoyancy to assist clients to perform exercises that would be difficult on dry land.

This session is held weekly on a Tuesday afternoon.  Eligibility screening is required prior to attendance.

Cost:  $8.00 per session.

 

Tai Chi for Arthritis

The qualified instructor will lead participants through the various movements designed by Dr Paul Lam.  This form of Tai Chi will help reduce the effects of arthritis by decreasing pain and stiffness and improving joint mobility and balance.

Cost:  $5.00 per session.

 

Tai Chi for People with Parkinsons

This program is a modified program to cater for the needs of people with Parkinsons. The class runs weekly on a Thursday and includes monthly guest speakers.

Cost: $5.00 per session.

 

Health Promotion

These sessions are held once or twice a month on a Tuesday afternoon and cover a wide variety of topics that are relevant for our clients.

HACC Allied Health 

This is a Department of Health funded exercise program delivered by an exercise physiologist.  Each person is assessed and given an individualised program.  Clients for this program need to be HACC eligible.  A doctors clearance may be required prior to commencement.

Cost:  $5.00 per session.

 

The following services are provided on a fee for service basis:

 

 Massage Therapy

Provided by a qualified remedial massage therapist.

Cost:  $20.00 per ½ hour individual session

 

Podiatry

Provided by Healthcare2U.

Cost:  $24.00 per individual session
