Mingara Day Activity Centre coordinates social and recreational activities for both a Men's Group and a Dementia specific group from Forest Hill.  The Centre is located within Strathdon community and is convenient to the independent living units and residential aged care facilities.

Uniting Aged Care - Mingara Day Activity Centre was established in 1984 to provide day respite care for people living with dementia and their carers. 

We aim to enhance the quality of life for clients by providing an activities program that encourages each individual with mental and physical stimulation, awareness of their own identity and a sense of belonging in the community regardless of their cultural, linguistic, social and/or economic background.

Mingara is an Aboriginal word meaning The House of the Happy Spirit. Our services strive to achieve excellence in the level of support that we offer people with dementia and the people who care for them, to enable them to continue living in the wider community for as long as possible.

An activities program is offered to clients and is planned around the expectations that any non-impaired person living in the community would enjoy when visiting a social venue away from home.

Most but not all clients attending Mingara suffer from moderate to severe dementia. Carers of clients attending the Day Activity Centre are offered advice, education, supportive counselling, and referral to ongoing services.

• An activity program tailored to the needs of people with memory loss.
• Counselling and support for families and carers, both on an individual basis and through the Alzheimer's Society Support Group (Forest Hill Branch).
• Access to Interpreter Services.
• Regular monitoring and review including ongoing referral to other community care services as needed.
