Yernga ILUs - Further Information

Activities
Yernga residents may choose to access on-site activities held in the Community Hall.  These activities include:

  • Invitations to hear guest speakers on topics of interest
  • Friends of Yernga (social group fundraising for the Waverley Benevolent Society)
  • Carpet bowls
  • Luncheons and outings
  • A Christian Fellowship Group also runs a church service each Thursday night.

Shopping trips to Forest Hill Shopping Centre and monthly organised bus trips are arranged by Strathdon Community on behalf of residents.

Fees
An entry contribution to the units is charged. This sum is held in trust for the resident during their stay in the unit.  On leaving, the entry contribution will be refunded, minus an amount retained by Strathdon Community.

A daily service fee is charged to cover:

  • Unit maintenance
  • Communal area maintenance
  • Contents insurance
  • Council rates
  • Water rates
  • Initial emergency call system installation

Residents are responsible for the costs of:

  • Electricity, including hot water and heating costs
  • Telephone accounts and connection fee
  • Own individual garden maintenance
  • Quarterly monitoring fee for the emergency call system
  • Any structural alterations or additions to the unit.  These must receive prior approval from Strathdon's Maintenance Department and remain the property of Strathdon when the unit is vacated.

General

Residents are eligible to apply for assessment from their City Council for domiciliary services.  If a resident needs more support they may be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Service, based at the Peter James Centre, for a Community Aged Care Package.
