Eligibility
To determine your eligibility, contact a Respite Coordinator or Manager in your region.

A carer must:

  • be caring for a frail older Australian (65 years or over, or if indigenous, aged over 50 years); or a person of any age who has a diagnosis of dementia.

Some programs have additional eligibility requirements, such as:

  • the carer is caring for a person who has been assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Service/Team as in need of high level care; or
  • the carer is employed or studying with the intention to return to work and caring for a frail older Australian (65 years or over, or if indigenous, aged over 50 years) or be caring for a person of any age who has a diagnosis of dementia.

Service Fees
In most instances a small client contribution is required.  Financial hardship provisions are available and may be discussed with the coordinator in your area.  The coordinator or manager in your area can discuss your payment options with you.
